Earthquakes in Italy

Jun 05, 2012 13:59 BST

The Emilia-Romagna region of Italy, including Medolla, was hit by two major earthquakes – the first on May 20 and the second on May 29, 2012.

The Gambro plant in Medolla was affected by those earthquakes. Fortunately, no Gambro employees were injured but we will most likely experience some supply constraints. A key priority for us will be the continuity of patient care and we will do everything possible to ensure that our customers have the products they need to treat their patients.

An overall steering committee consisting of members of Gambro’s Senior Management is overseeing and coordinating the entire recovery effort involving experts from all functional areas.  We are also in discussions with the regulatory authorities and are working with our customers to explore various options to assure uninterrupted product supply.

In addition, we have implemented the following measures:

  • A number of task forces have been formed around the world to ensure continuation of product supply to our customers.
  • A broad team of experts are in place inItalyto re-start production in a safe and efficient manner.
Inventory is being reallocatedEuropean-wide to meet demand.
  • We are in discussions with other manufacturers and suppliers who have also been affected by the earthquakes.
  • We are actively exploring additional purchasing from external suppliers.
  • We are also looking into various options to assure that our customers have access to the products they need to treat their patients.
  • We are actively investigating the status of our customers’ stocks, inventory and weekly consumption in order to prioritize deliveries.
